October 5, 2018.  NYS Senator Chris Jacobs announced that he has secured $300,000 in the State budget for the Village.  This funding will be used for a sewer lining project on Warren, Euclid and Parkwood, between Myron and Delaware Avenue.  Mayor Mang, in extending his thanks to Senator Jacobs, noted that he and the Board are committed to improving the Village's infrastructure and that sewer linings eliminate leaks in the sewer lines and prevent infiltration.  The Village, in the last few years, has lined almost 5 miles of its sewer lines.  Sewer linings have been used because they are less expensive and, because they are trenchless (the street doesn't have to be excavated to access the pipe), there is little disruption to the residents.  Instead of replacing the existing pipe, a flexible liner is placed into the sewer.  The liner is expanded to fit tightly to and adhere to the sewer wall.  As a result the pipe is free of breaks and cracks and will have a useful life for as much as 100 years. The Village is most grateful to Senator Jacobs for his help in securing funding for these important infrastructure upgrades.

September 2018.  The Village of Kenmore and the County of Erie will be conducting an Information Meeting on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 6 - 8 PM to review plans for the Elmwood Avenue Pedestrian/Bicycle Improvement Project - Phase II.  This project will involve replacement of the sidewalks, restoration of green space, and implementation of ADA curb cuts to the west side of Elmwood Avenue.  The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers of the Kenmore Municipal Building 2919 Delaware Avenue, Kenmore 14217.  All are welcome to learn more about this project.

Please contact Brian Rose at 716 858-2079 with any questions.  Written comments should be forwarded to Mr. Rose at the Erie County Department of Public Works, 95 Franklin Street, Room 1400, Buffalo, NY  14202 and must be received by 5 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

May 31 2018.  Kenmore Police carry torch for Special Olympics.  On June 1, 2018, the Kenmore Police Department and the Town Police Department will be participating in the annual Torch run for Special Olympics.  They will pick up the torch around 9 AM at Sheridan Drive and Niagara Falls Boulevard and will be running down Delaware Avenue (around the Municipal Building) between 9:30 and 9:45 AM.

All are welcome to come out and cheer on our police representatives and all the runners!  Congratulations to all the participants of the 2018 Special Olympics!!

April 2018.   The Village Board has approved the Budget for the 2018/2019 Fiscal Year which begins June 1, 2018.  The Budget includes a small increase to the Homestead Tax Rate of just 57 cents/$1000.  Since most homes have an assessed valuation of $55,000, the average increase will be $28.50 for the entire year (only $2.47 more per month).

The budget again includes no increase for elected officials who have had no salary increase for 31 years.  There were also virtually no increases to Department Head budgets which have stayed level for 17 years, despite increased costs for materials, equipment, supplies, IT/contractual and professional services, etc.

Total Appropriations for all funds total $18,515,827.  The General Fund, on which the Village Tax rate is based is $13,860,022.  The budget includes funding for many capital improvements including milling and paving of several streets, sidewalk replacements in CDBG-eligible streets, and several sewer lining projects.

The Mayor noted that in the 17/18 Fiscal Year, the Village completed 2 water main replacement projects, lined several sewers, completed work on the east side of the Elmwood Pedestrian Improvement Project, initiated its new Recycle Program and started installing remote readers on interior water meters.  The budget will allow for capital improvements while maintaining the Village's services including emergency services which boast the fastest response time in Western New York.
