Sep 25, 2024 – The Village of Kenmore celebrated its 125th anniversary of incorporation on September 18th. Mayor Mang noted that his ancestors were among the first to settle in Kenmore, which was mostly farmland. The main reason that the founders wanted to establish their own government was to raise taxes. At the time, neither Buffalo nor Tonawanda were willing to fund water lines, sewers or even wood-plank sidewalks for the area. Ten years after incorporation, the Village map shows over a 1/3 of the Village has no homes, and most of the existing streets were known by different names. Today, Kenmore is one of the most densely populated municipalities in the United States! Our full service government also boasts the fastest emergency response times in Western New York. Since our Centennial in 1999, the Village has rebuilt several streets, the Community Center was completely renovated, the water tower came down and sewer lining projects improve our infrastructure for future generations. Thanks to all the Village employees, businesses, service organizations, community groups, government officials and residents, past and present, who have helped to make Kenmore such a great, walkable community!
