Lead & Galvanized Service Line

Lead in your drinking water can pose a danger to you and your family.

Kenmore delivers water to our residents through a Water Wain (Main).  A Service Line runs from the Main to your home.  The Service line is your responsibility.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Health (DOH) have mandated all municipalities to conduct an inventory of all properties to ascertain what material your Service Line is made of.  Some of these Service Lines were constructed of lead, or galvanized pipe.  There are health concerns associated with water delivered through Service Lines made of lead or galvanized pipe.

The Village has completed its inventory and letters have been mailed out from the Village which detail more information about your Service Line.  In most cases, we don’t know what your Service Line is constructed of.  If you fall into this category (which is most of our properties), your letter will state that your lead status is UNKNOWN.  Because lead can enter into your drinking water from a lead service line (and indoor plumbing materials such as lead solder on copper pipes and chrome-plated brass or brass fixtures and faucets), this letter will give you tips on how to reduce your exposure to lead in drinking water.  This letter also gives you opportunities to verify your service line material and to help us with our inventory.

If we have identified that your service line has LEAD, your letter will outline what that means, health effects of lead, and steps to take to reduce exposure to lead in your drinking water.  The letter will also provide information on how to have your child tested to determine lead levels and how to replace your lead service line.

If we know your property has a GALVANIZED service line, your letter will contain information specific to you.

Letters have been sent to every Kenmore residence.  If you are renting, please make sure that the owner receives a copy of the letter.

Please review your letter carefully and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.  You can email us at:
