Marriage licenses can be obtained from any Town or City Clerk’s Office. For Village of Kenmore residents, the closest Clerk’s Office would be the Town of Tonawanda Clerk’s Office, located in Room 14 of the Kenmore Municipal Building. Both you and your fiancé will need to come in to get your license. You will need to schedule an appointment: (716) 877-8800. You will need to bring:
One of the following forms of identification:
- Certified Birth Certificate – government issued with raised-seal and translated to English if in foreign language. This is obtained from the Clerk’s Office where you were born. NB: If you were born at Kenmore Mercy Hospital, you will get your birth certificate from the Town of Tonawanda.
- Valid Passport
- Baptismal record (with raised seal) showing both parents names – baptism
must have taken place within one year of birth. - Naturalization record – original only
You will also need to provide proof of dissolution for ALL previous marriages (certified divorce decree, death certificate, or civil annulment).
Once issued, the Marriage license is valid for sixty (60) days, beginning 24 hours after the license is issued. This is called the Solemnization Period. You must get married within this timeframe.
Marriages can be performed by any clergy person, judge, retired judge, or other person certified and recognized by New York State to officiate marriages.
