 Background

The Village of Kenmore Building Department is comprised of a full-time Building Inspector, a part-time inspector, and a part time Plumbing and Electrical Inspector. Together these individuals perform inspections required under the New York State Fire and Building Code and address complaints pertaining to violations of the New York State Building and Property Maintenance Code and the Kenmore Municipal Code.

The Village is ever mindful of the importance of maintaining properties in Kenmore's 100+ year old community. Inspections are made to assure that properties are kept up and in compliance with all applicable regulations. Notices are sent to advise owners and residents of any items needing to be addressed.

In addition to inspections, the Building Department is also responsible for issuing building permits, inspecting construction work, approving and issuing sump pump certificates, issuing Certificates of Compliance, Electrical and Plumbing permits, and sign permits.

DRIVING SAFETY REMINDER:

Every day, distracted driving kills more than 9 people and injures more than 1,100.  According the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it accounts for more than 1.5 million collisions/yr.

TALKING or TEXTING - Using a cell phone impairs driver reaction time to the same level as the legal limit for impaired driving.  You are 23 times more likely to crash if you're texting.

Please remember that any kind of multi-tasking should be avoided while driving.  Keep your attention on the road.  Eliminate driver distractions that keep your eyes off the road, whether it be personal maintenance, rubber-necking, texting (or using a hand-held phone), or adjusting your radio, iPod or GPS.    If you need to address any of these things, PULL OVER and stop in a safe place.

Mayor Patrick MangWelcome to the Official Website of the Village of Kenmore. I hope that you will find this website interesting and informative.

Kenmore is a special community which has received national acclaim.  It was recently named one of the “Top 10 Great Neighborhoods” in the United States!  In addition, the Village (along with the Town of Tonawanda) was named by Business Week as one of the best places in the United States to raise a family. Most recently, Business First looked at all municipalities in the United States and listed the Village of Kenmore as the “highest rated community in Western New York”. This national recognition points to what a special place Kenmore is.

My family was one of the first to settle in Kenmore so the Village has always held a special place in my heart.  Its 120+ year old history is seen in its beautiful homes and architecture and in the tradition of community events, such as Kenmore Days

Our community boasts a thriving business district, beautiful residential homes, fine schools, parks, playgrounds, and a library. The services provided by our government departments are unsurpassed.  Public safety needs are provided through the Kenmore Police Department and the Kenmore Fire Department with skill and professionalism.  Our response time is less than 2 minutes!  Residents can also take pride in the personal service and quality work provided by the Office of the Clerk/Treasurer, the Building Department and the Department of Public Works.

My fellow trustees and I take great pride in our public service to this community and we strive to promote Kenmore and to work hard for the betterment of people who live and work here.  We are working with our Department Heads and employees to meet the needs of the community, both now and in the future.

Perhaps Kenmore’s greatest asset is its people.  There is a true sense of community in our Village.  The government works closely with our residents, businesses, and community organizations to promote the many services, activities, and benefits of Kenmore.  Whether it’s a holiday sing-a-long, the Farmers Market, or fund raising drives to benefit our troops overseas, the Kenmore community is always supportive and happy to join together.

I hope that you will enjoy learning more about the Village of Kenmore as you explore this website.  If you should have any questions or comments about Kenmore, please call (716) 873-5700.  The success of our government relies heavily on the information and cooperation provided by the community.  Your involvement and input allow us to serve you better.
