FREEDOM OF INFORMATION LAW (FOIL)

You can request information from the government under FOIL.  Requests are made in writing and are accepted by mail or email.  All requests must include the applicant’s name, address, and phone number, as well as what information is being requested.  Requests must be legible and specific.  For example, if you are requesting a fire report, you should include the address and date (or approximate date, if the exact date is unknown).

The Clerk/Treasurer serves as Record Officer for the Village.  The Clerk/Treasurer will respond to the Request within five (5) business days from receipt of the written request.

Please note that some requests may be denied, if the request falls within the excluded information requests outlined in the law.  The Records Access Officer is charged with determining whether a request for information will be accepted or denied.

Under the Freedom of Information Act, the Village can only provide records in its possession.  We cannot create records, not already in existence.  Nor are we responsible to obtain records held by other agencies.

There is a charge of $.25/page for hard copies.  Checks are made payable to the “Village of Kenmore”.

Requests made through email will be responded to and delivered via email, unless the records are too large to send electronically, in which case you will have to pay to receive these documents.

To download an application, click here.

Please note that if your application request is denied, you have a right to appeal.  To appeal, you must provide a signed request for appeal.  The Records Access Officer must then provide a full explanation of the reason for denial within seven days of receipt.

REGISTRAR

Kathleen P. Johnson – Registrar

Gail T. Higgins – Sub Registrar

The Registrar maintains birth and death records that occur within the Village of Kenmore.  Burials also have to be approved by the Registrar.

Certified copies of these records can be obtained through the Clerk/Treasurer’s Office.  Please note that these records are not available to everyone.  These records are only released to the individual or his/her family members.  There is a cost of $10.00 for each copy requested.

Please note that Kenmore Mercy Hospital is located in the Town of Tonawanda, and not the Village of Kenmore.  If you are seeking a birth certificate for someone born at Kenmore Mercy or who passed away there, you will need to contact the Town of Tonawanda at (716) 877-8800.

Nothing celebrates the beginning of summer better than the annual Kenmore Memorial Day Parade.  The parade takes place on Delaware Avenue, beginning in the Town of Tonawanda, continuing into the Village of Kenmore, and turning onto Lincoln Boulevard, ending at Elmwood Avenue.

The parade features bands, service organizations, dance groups, and fire departments.  Veterans and active members of the military are honored and thanked for their service to our country, and of course, we remember those military personnel who died in service.

Interested participants should contact the Brounshidle Post for more information.

Village offices are closed on Memorial Day.

Garbage (and Recycle, if it's a recycle week) collection is delayed 1 day all week long.

November 11th, 11 AM - 11/11/23 on the Village Green

This annual event honors our veterans and active members of the military.  Special tribute is given to POWs and MIAs, and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to this Country.

The ceremony is organized by veterans from the American Legion Milton J. Brounshidle Post 205 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry E. Crosby Post 2472.

The ceremony takes place, rain or shine, on the Municipal Green, directly in front of the Kenmore Municipal Building at 11 AM.

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VETS & MILITARY PERSONNEL!
